Halftones + Hashmarks
This spring I was contracted to provide poster artwork for races in National Parks. Their previous year artwork was not selling very well, and they wanted to elevate the design.
With the brief direction of wanting a ‘retro vibe’, I provided them with illustration style concepts. The style we settled on is one that echo’s risograph printing. It would have solid bright colors, nature layers, with one detail being a sketchy look.
With 4 locations, I determined the colors would have to be different from desert and mountain landscapes.
The style was to utilize a limited number of colors, to emulate the risograph printing requirements. I used halftone and crosshatch methods to blend and build colors, to suit the landscape needs.
